x264vfw won't record in Minecraft, works in other apps

Tue Jan 29, 2013 10:22 pm

Hi,
I have two issues:

1) I'm trying to use x264vfw codec to record Minecraft. x264vfw works fine in the other 5 games that I have tried (they are all D3D games and not java) but when I go into Minecraft the FPS display just blinks from green to red to green again and a 0kb file is saved.

2) When I switch to any other codec provided with Bandicam (I tried MPEG1 MJPEG and XVID) it records Minecraft however there is a noticeable input lag of approximately 0.5 to 1.0 seconds that I do not experience when recording with fraps. FYI this same issue is present with dxtory but is not present when using vdub and vh screen cap.

My computer specs are not an issue as you will see below.

Windows 7 64bit
2x GeForce 680
Intel 3930k @ 4.6Ghz
32GB RAM
Recording Disk: sustained 300MB/S read/write RAID
Bandicam version: 1.8.5.303 (latest trial)
Bandicam mode: 'DirectX/OpenGL window'
Recording Target: javaw.exe (gl)
I am using 64 bit java as well if that matters, minecraft uses approximately 1.5gb of ram.

Thanks for the help.

Hmm, Bandicam might have a problem with the java window.
Have you tried recording a rectangle on screen, to see if that works for you?

Hi,

It seems that you only installed x264vfw (32bit) codec.
Please go to http://sourceforge.net/projects/x264vfw/files/, and install both x264vfw (32bit) and x264vfw64 (64bit) codec.

P.S.
We've also changed the external codec manual.

Having both codecs seemed to fix it so it records now. Thank you.

I have two other related issues maybe you can help with:

1) Minecraft fps. Running a window 1920x1080 I get 320 fps in Minecraft not recording, while recording I get 150fps. Playing fullscreen 2560x1440 I get 230fps in the game but only 50fps while recording? Why is there such a drop recording at slightly higher resolution? For reference in Farcry 3 at 2560x1600 I maintain 130 fps while not recording and 85-90fps while recording. While recording at 2560x1440 farcry3 gets 30% drop in fps while minecraft gets 80% drop, something seems wrong. I have x264 configured exactly as you have shown on manual link.

2) If I record with x264 and scale to 1920x1080 the file will playback fine in WMP. If I record full size all I get is a black screen in WMP but it plays fine in VLC. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling x264 and x264-64, not sure where the problem could be?

Thanks for help

We're sorry that we have no idea about it.
It might be related with the opengl of minecraft. Please contact the minecraft developer.

It might be a problem with codec. Could you send the short video clip (full size) to bandicam@bandisoft.com?
