Prey / Doom 3 / Quake Recording results in Stuttering

Mon May 13, 2013 9:52 pm

Hello,

Trying to record all these games (which are based on the same engine) results in stuttering display of the games on my monitor. The Video files are absolutely fine, but I want to see the Games running fluently if my computer can do so.

The fps I have before starting to record are 60 fps and it seems as fluid as 60 fps are. And when I start recording, its still near 60 fps (mabye four or five frames less), but it does not seem as fluid anymore. Its just weird.

Do you know what I can do about that?
Mabye some weird setting which could resolve this?
Why is it that even when I have the same fps the game seems so much less fluent once I'm recording?

Greetings,

Ravior

Hi,

We have just tried Doom 3, but we couldn't reproduce the problem you mentioned.

What is your computer specification?

You may try the solutions below:

My Computer specs are:
Intel i7-2670QM @ 2,2 GHz
GeForce GTX 570M
8 GB Ram
Windows 7 Score is: 7,3

Actually I thought that it would behave the same in all the games which run on this engine, but it seems it just happens with the game Prey. Mabye you can test that too? Or can I get you any logs wich record what happens when using bandicam?

Hi Ravior,

I will download and install this off my Steam account, is yours from Steam or is it another digital or retail distrobution?

Also, can you provide what settings you use in-game, like resolution, texture quality, anti-aliasing etc.

Hello,

For trying out I used 1920x1080 ingame (which you can have by creating a file called "autoexec.conf" in the games "base" folder with this content:

Code: Select all

seta r_customHeight "1080"
seta r_customWidth "1920"

seta r_mode "-1"

seta r_aspectRatio "1"
I tried different settings in the game, but the behaviour remains like this.
I simply changed the resolutio to 720p where the effect is not so obvious anymore, but still its weird thing.

Its really hard to describe, as I said, its 60 fps without bandicam recording and 60 fps with bandicam recording, but when its recording it looks rather like 25 frames or so...

Hi Raviour,

Okay, I understand what you mean, I will have a mess around and see if I can come up with anything to try and help, at least until if Bandi can reproduce or fix the problem.

Hi.

I have just finished testing Prey and recording.

I cannot reproduce your problem so far with Prey. I do have adaptive v-sync enabled so get 60fps as shown by Bandicam, and when I start recording this does drop to around 30fps, which again is also shown, and also when moving and playing as normal when recording, you can tell the game is not as fluid which suggests to me that Bandicam is at least showing the correct fps on my setup.

Can you perhaps list the settings you are using in Bandicam, and also perhaps paste the full config file you use for Prey and any other settings you may have added by autoexec.cfg and perhaps the log files.

Thanks.

Hello. Since it's as I said (I cant really describe the behaviour) I recorded a video of it with a camera (recording my monitor) so you can see how everything looks. I've send the link to the video to you with a private message.

1. Could you send the link to bandicam@bandisoft.com?

2.
seta r_customHeight "1080"
seta r_customWidth "1920"
Bandicam records and compresses at the same time.
If the video resolution is higher than 1080p, you can have the problem.

3. You may try "Motion JPEG" video codec or "Low-end PC" preset.
