Notification area ballon

Thu May 01, 2014 8:13 am

I use Windows 7 x64.
Is there a setting or a commandline option so I can prevent BandiCam from showing the balloon every time I start up my computer?
It's kind of annoying as it locks the process bar on the screen until I move my mouse or something before I can finally get to my icons which are behind the bar.

Hiya Snowman,

It mainly depends on how you have your Taskbar and System Tray area set up in Windows.

I have Windows7 64-bit as well, and it's serendipitous that you ask this question now, as I was working off and on, on a Tutorial on how to do this very thing, after seeing people asking how to do this on various forums. I'll quickly describe it here:
  • There are a few ways to open the Customization options for the Taskbar, but one way is to right-click the Taskbar and choose Properties, then click on the 'Customize...' button.
  • In here, find Bandicam in the list and click on the pull-down menu for it and choose "Hide Icon and Notifications".
  • Then, when you minimize Bandicam (or start it Minimized) you shouldn't see any pop-up balloon anymore.
(You may have to select the "Start Bandicam Minimized" and "Minimize to System Tray" checkboxes in Bandicam)

I hope that helps and solves it for you!

I know that possibility but it's not what I need.
I would like to keep the icon so I can verify it's running if needed.
Basically I want to keep the icon, but loose the balloon.

Ah, I see. Unfortunately you've run into a desire that is restricted more by Windows than by Bandicam…

Since 2007 when Windows Vista came out, people have been asking for this. “By Design” they say, the option for it is just not there: you either have the icon or you get nothing.

However, there is a way for an end user to force it, if you don’t mind editing the Registry:

Code: Select all

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"TaskbarNoNotification"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"TaskbarNoNotification"=-

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"EnableBalloonTips"=-

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"EnableBalloonTips"=-
Take the above and paste it into Notepad and save as any name you want, with a “.reg” extension (without the quotation marks), then run it. It should configure it so that you see the icon but noone (even other users) will see Notification Bubbles, if that’s what you want.

If you own the Professional version of Windows7 or higher, you can also make these changes in the Group Policy Editor, by going to Start>Run and typing "gpedit.msc" (without quotation marks) and hitting Enter. Then, navigate through the Local Computer Policy to User Configuration>Administrative Templates>Start Menu and Taskbar, and editing the policy for "Turn off all balloon notifications", Enabling it.

Please don't blame Bandicam, they can only do what Windows allows them - it's not their fault :cry:

Hopefully that’ll solve it for you

It wasn't exactly this I was looking for but I guess it will do. Thanks :)

I am not blaming BandiCam, I just wonder why other programs I have starting with the computer can start without showing a balloon, but BandiCam can't.
An example is that I have a harddisk monitoring program that autostarts at boot. It doesn't show any balloons at startup, but it DOES show a balloon if a drive goes critical.
This just tells me that BandiCam decided to FORCE a balloon at startup telling that BandiCam is running.
All I was out to get, was a small setting that could let ME choose if I want the balloon.

Sidenote: I am a Microsoft Certified Professional and Technology Specialist, and have been working with IT for about 30 years, so I do know a thing or two about Windows ;)

Perfect and thank you :)
BandiCam is by far the best I have seen at what it does, with very little impact on the games I use it in.
When the balloon setting is added then there is only one minor thing I sometimes miss:
Support for Logitech gaming keyboard displays.
It could be great to show fps in the display instead of onscreen, and maybe have a recording indicator there too.
It's not important in any way though.

Keep up with the great work ;)
