Poor performance while recording on 'OpenGL' applications

Wed Dec 16, 2015 7:19 pm

Hello Bandisoft Forums,

Computer Hardware Specifications:
Machine type: Laptop
Machine brand: hp
Machine model/type: Pavilion dv4 Notebook PC
System Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard
Operating System: Windows(R) 7 Home Premium x64
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3210M @ 2.5GHz
Memory: 8GB of RAM DDR3 (4096MB x 2)
Graphics: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000
Graphics approx. total memory: 1696MB
DirectX version: DirectX 11

Bandicam Recording Settings:
File Type: .AVI

Video
Video Size: 1280x720
FPS: 60
Codec: MPEG-1, VBR
Quality: 100

Audio
Codec: PCM
[ ] Save as original format
Channels: Stereo
Frequency: 48000 Hz

With Bandicam, I'm able to record videos very well without problems however when recording 'OpenGL' programs using the 'Game Recording Mode' brings poor performance while recording while 'DirectX' or 'D3D' programs are very smooth and have no problems while recording.

I've been using Bandicam for almost 2 years now, using the Evaluation Version (which is totally fine by me) and the performance drop occurs on ALL OpenGL games, all DirectX/D3D games record just fine.

Tested Games (recorded on Game Recording Mode):
-Doom 3 (OpenGL, major FPS drop while recording)
-Quake 4 (OpenGL, major FPS drop while recording)
-Minecraft (OpenGL, major FPS drop while recording)
-Killing Floor (OpenGL, major FPS drop while recording)
-Counter-Strike 2D (OpenGL, major FPS drop while recording)
-Killing Floor (DirectX, smooth while recording)
-Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (DirectX, smooth while recording)
-Warcraft III (DirectX, smooth while recording)
-GTA: San Andreas (DirectX, smooth while recording)
-Need for Speed: Carbon (DirectX, smooth while recording)
-Battlefield 2 (DirectX, smooth while recording)
-Fallout 3 (DirectX, smooth while recording)

The framerate issue is solved if I'm using the 'Screen Recording Mode' option instead but it's a problem on games running on Fullscreen thus leading me to use the 'Game Recording Mode' option instead. Any solutions possible to fix the problem? Big thanks in advance.

Hello!

We couldn't get high enough FPS when we recorded OpenGL applications with a laptop.
However, we have no idea how we can increase the FPS.
Other recording programs such as Fraps also had the poor FPS issue.

Can you get high enough FPS with Fraps with a laptop?

Actually yeah, Fraps records Quake 4 fine (capped to 30 fps) without any problems.
EDIT: Except the stutter issue where the FPS drops while recording (both OpenGL & D3d) from 90 to 24.

We've tried Quake 4.
However, Bandicam could get higher FPS than Fraps in our laptop.
- The FPS of Fraps was 8 ~ 10 while recording.
- The FPS of Bandicam was 18 ~ 20 while recording.

We don't have a good solution at the moment.
We will keep an eye on this issue.

Okay thanks for taking your time on helping, I'll stick to 'Screen Recording Mode' whilst the game is running on Windowed Mode, seems to have no problems while recording but a small quality loss.

Try Fraps v3.2.9

Also blame Intel for a crappy OGL drivers, AMD's OGL drivers are not better as well.
I can perfectly record any OGL game on Nvidia's GPU even on a shitty computers with a tiny impact on a performance.
