Difference between GPU vs CPU H264?

Thu Aug 17, 2017 5:49 pm

I wanted to ask - what's the difference between GPU vs CPU H264? Is GPU one faster? CPU one eats CPU performance? Are they the same in terms of quality?

Hi Jarrus,

Although the H264(CPU) encoder might be faster than the H264 encoder of GPU theoretically, usually GPU H264 encoder is faster than the H264(CPU) encoder.
CPU one eats CPU performance?
Yes, that is right. The important thing is that the recording does not affect the game play when H264(CPU) is used.
Are they the same in terms of quality?
Yes, it is almost the same.

Thank you.

If you have an unused GPU on your motherboard, such as a built-in Intel HD graphics, you could use that to free up your actual GPU used for playing games to just play games... let the un-used Intel one be used to record :D

I have Intel Celeron G1840 and R7 260 1GB. I've read on other topic on net when I googled it: I've read that GPU is higher quality. It was Intel vs Nvidia in that case.
