Recording Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 with Bandicam

Tue Jan 08, 2013 4:47 pm

Greetings Bandicammers!

RCT2 is a game I worked on long ago to try record, but the way the game uses video memory/buffering, it was quite difficult to get working correctly. Like many others, I simply gave up at the time. Recently, I got back into wanting to record it, and after some different testing and trying with 'other products', then with Bandicam, it worked! Even today, I see people asking how to record this game, so I wanted to share how I got it working (with Bandicam of course) hoping that it would help others make their own RCT2 gameplay videos.

So, here are two videos, the first one is a sample/testing video (just showing it can be done and some codecs/settings testing I was doing and what they look like) and then a brief tutorial video on how I actually did it (in summary form at first and then in more detail after that, showing exactly what I did and what it looked like on the screen):

There are a couple other ways to do it I think, but here is how I recorded Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 gameplay with Bandicam:
- Install Windows into a VM Guest (VMware virtual machine within the VMware Player application)
- Install RCT2 into that Virtual Machine, running the VM in a window (for example, 1280x720)
- Set up Bandicam to record a 'Rectangle On A Screen' and set the Rectangle to be the same size as the Virtual Machine running in a window (in this case, 1280x720) and line them up.
That's it!

I wrote a short TestRun article at my blog explaining in more detail what I tried, how I got it working, and some testing and results. It can be found here:

I hope this helps people that want to record Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 - have fun making your own RCT2 gameplay vids with Bandicam! :D
