Massive lag spikes using RGB24

Sun Jul 19, 2015 4:07 am

Always when i start recording with RGB24 codec it starting make extremely annoying lag spikes that interfere my gaming experience. FPS is fine, 120-70 FPS when recording Minecraft. When I used other codecs like H.264 it was going smooth.

Windows 7 SP 1
Intel Core i3 3220
8GB RAM
nVidia GeForce 9500GT 512MB
1TB Western Digital HDD

I wont use any other codec in any case. I have 1280x720 screen. Quality and detailed image is required in this case.

That's a really serious issue, I must find a way to fix it.

What's the framerate of your preset?
I assume you're not going to use footage in YouTube since you're after quality.

Here's the thing.
With 1280x720p 30fps the codec uses 664 Mbits per second. That's 83MBs per each second.
60fps will have that doubled. If you don't have write to disk cache enabled then you're screwed. Even if you do... it won't save you during longer periods of time.
Under perfect conditions a hard drive can achieve a peak write speed of 120MB/s. Fragmented drive can go as slow as 20MB/s. The way the data is stored on platter is that the more data you have, the lower the writing/reading speed on the remaining space will be. Average speeds under defragmented conditions are around 60-70MB/s.
To put it short your own overwhelmed hard drive might be causing the spikes. Not mentioning that it might be reading game files during the capture.
This codec will fill your entire hard drive in less than an hour.

It means I should have better hard drive, like SSD? I use 30 FPS, but 60 do the same spikes. My HDD has 2 parts: C and D. Game is on C but recording on D. Anyway it is not a solution, because it is the same HDD. I have 2 options: put records on an external HDD or buy SSD. I prefer first option but with SSD. Ok then, I suspected that only hard drive can do these spikes. Thank you!

Tested Fraps, as I know, it recording without cpression. Checked force lossless RGB capture and it really doing something unbelievable for me: no freezes, lower video size, higher bitrate (?). And 100% quality video! Why Bandicam can't do that? I hope one day Bandicam will have the same performance. But now I'm going to record with Fraps.
