Re: BF4 crashes when trying to record with AMD APP Variable

Wed Mar 25, 2015 3:38 pm

BF4 had a huge patch recently maybe that's it, I know Test range wasn't touched as it's still got the bug where the targets don't drop.

I guess it's up to you guys to optimise / fix AMD APP recording for the latest BF4 patch.

I found new software to record BF4 using AMD VCE.

It might be a problem with Raptr, AMD APP and/or PunkBuster.

When we turned on Raptr, we could see the error message below and had the crashing issue from time to time.

Code: Select all

ERROR
Game disconnected: you were kicked by PunkBuster. Stated reason: PunkBuster kicked
player 'xxxx' (for 0 minutes)... Time Out trying to Update PB Client.

However, when we uninstalled Raptr, we couldn't reproduce the crashing issue any more.

I'll try it but I get a different error as far as I know, I get a crash and not punkbuster kick.

I never run Raptr while I'm recording with Bandicam.

The new software i found has it's issues and has a average of 8ms jitter on BF4 and can't keep 60fps, but at least I can record without crashing and it's smooth to play but the final video could be better.

Bandicam has less almost no jitter on most games and can keep 60fps from what I've seen using Media Player Classic.

So I really want a solution.

Uninstalled raptr and it still crashed. Why doesn't it ever crash on the test range? I can record that with AMD APP every time no problem.

It crashed on Multiplyer servers right after I try to record, it run fine before that while bandicam is running.

I get the same crash it's saying it's openCL, isn't bandicam using it?

Re: BF4 crashes when trying to record with AMD APP Variable

Sat Apr 04, 2015 9:35 pm

I worked out a way to record BF4 multiplayer without it crashing on AMD APP.

As long as I start recording when the game is loading it won't crash, If I try and start recording after the game loads and I'm playing, 100% of the time on AMD APP it will crash to the same crash I posted earlier (opencl).

I can then stop the recording and I can start it again ok, but I must start recording as soon as it starts to load the game on the loading screen first after that it's ok to start and stop.

In the past I would always wait for the game to start then spawn in and then start recoding which ends up crashing BF4.

As soon as it says loading game in the bottom of battlelog I go in and start recording...

When it's loading it's 30fps that's when i start recording (for the first time) after it loads it changes to 120fps and it records at 60fps.

The problem with that is I have to record a short video first to stop it from crashing and then stop it and start it when I'm ready.

I can't use your software since it lags BF4 even on H.264. I noticed ever since Catalyst Omega 14.12 came out it hasn't been running as good.

Going back to using D3DGear with AMD H.264 1080p 60fps on DX11 at least it has no affect on gameplay for me at all, but it's 60fps videos avarage 45fps with some jitter but thats the only downside, BUT at least I can play on it and there is no lag on screen and it sticks to my 120FPS.

BF4 Recording settings:

1440P @ 120hz
Ultra everything except no MSAA (Antialiasing Deferred [OFF])
Resolution scale 100% - When not recording I have it on 135%

1440p Ultra
Asus PG278Q 2560x1440p 120hz/144hz 1ms
Windows 8.1 64bit
AMD Catalyst Omega 14.12
4770K @ 4.4Ghz
2x MSI R9 290x Twin Frozr Gaming
Kingston HyperX 16GB 1600Mhz (2x 8GB)

I think you guys have to check and see how your software is running on AMD's latest full release Omega software as I can say it's gotten worse, it used to be really good.

Please do some optimising for BF4 multiplayer (not just the test range! I can record perfectly in the test range with AMD APP), the game is still in development and more DLC's are coming, at least one free DLC which has been created with community feedback and they are bringing 4 older maps back and they are creating night version of BF4 maps. Heaps of work is being done on CTE (Community test Environment) where they are continually advancing BF4 with new features and fixes, CTE users can testing out 60hz tick rate from the 30hz they already increased the full game to.

Please don't think Bf4 is dead it's going strong at least till BF5 or Star Wars Battlefront!

EDIT: I tried the previous version of Bandicam and it also crashed when I try and record with AMD APP when the multiplayer gameplay has started so it must be incompatible with BF4 current DX11 build on Multiplayer matches when using AMD APP. I paid good money for Bandicam and Bandicut not happy.

I tried the new version and it seems not to crash any more when I record BF4 multilayer with AMD APP wich is great but still needs more optimisation it lags.
