A couple of questiosn about MKV and AMD VCE encoding

Thu Nov 26, 2015 3:55 am

Good day.

First of all let me thank you for developing such a good recording tool ;)

I would be much obliged if you could answer these questions^

1) is there any ETA on mkv container?

2) How can I access advanced AMD VCE options? Like the ones OBS has\afterburner have. (balanced\speed\quality preset, h264 levels etc etc) Maybe I can edit these settings via ini file or something..

3) How come when I select CBR rate control (AMD) it doesn't encode at the specified bitrate. I was recording a streaming HD video and although I did set 5000 bitrate and then 10000 bitrate bandicam kept recording at 2800-3000+ bitrate.

Thank you

Sincerely yours,

Hello Semel,

We will try to answer the questions you asked.

1) is there any ETA on mkv container?
=> We don't have a plan for the mkv container at the moment. We may consider it in the distant future.

2) How can I access advanced AMD VCE options? Like the ones OBS has\afterburner have. (balanced\speed\quality preset, h264 levels etc etc) Maybe I can edit these settings via ini file or something..
=> We will consider it in the future. Thank you for suggesting it.

3) How come when I select CBR rate control (AMD) it doesn't encode at the specified bitrate. I was recording a streaming HD video and although I did set 5000 bitrate and then 10000 bitrate bandicam kept recording at 2800-3000+ bitrate.
=> It seems that the bitrate of the original video is 3000 or so.
If the bitrate of the original source is 3000, you will not get higher than 3000 bitrate.

Still no ETA on MKV? Would be awesome.

Can't restore mp4 after crash. (only for pretty good money)
Avi is a dead man too after crash sometimes - half of the file lost to nowhere.

Mkv don't need to be restored after crash. All the other is pretty good.

Mkv will be also awesome coz it's support hevc. Mp4 can't be restored after crash, not with stellar, not with anything else, only 1 site can do it, tried everything.

It's the only reason some ppl will choose obs and other programs, but not bandicam, really.

I checked forum and i`m not the only one who is getting crashes, power outage, etc.

Hello lcatlas,

We don't have a plan for the mkv container at the moment.
We've forwarded your request to our development team.

Regarding your crash issue, please refer to the following page.
https://www.bandicam.com/faqs/cannot-run/

You can repair the broken AVI files with BandiFix.

Thank you.

Any good container will be nice, like flv. Avi even after restore can lost like 20% footage.

i would continue using mp4 but with a twist. Implement the Auto Complete Recording feature. You can do it every 5 minutes, every 10 minutes, every xxx MB, etc. You can then use a joiner program to join the clips together with zero quality loss. And you get multiple benefits:
1) crash protection
2) easier to backup to cloud
2) easier to cutout unwanted parts or work with smaller chunks in editor.
4) less chance of corruption of one large file.

You can also use avi, but with this strategy why not use mp4 and get smaller file size?

See https://forum.bandicam.com/viewtopic.ph ... 745#p21965

I don't see any reason not to use auto-complete recording feature. You can always make 1 large file if you really needed it via lossless joining.

After stop there is lag on the camera and after start too. So it's not a best method. I like mp4, but editing is time consuming also, by alot.
