increased file size after cutting

Thu Dec 27, 2018 3:52 am

Cut clips seem to have bigger file size than the original and I seem to have this problem recently. Any idea about how to get rid of this?

When I choose a video to cut, an orange line goes to the end of the time line. Then I know I'll have the larger file size problem. I didn't have that problem when I first intalled the program.

Hello,

If you use the 'Encoding mode', it can happen depending on the video file.

You will not have the issue when you use the 'High-Speed mode'.

Below are some pictures of the problem. As you see I use the high speed mod. (1st pic) When I started the process, it shows the file size after a while. As you can see it's a 658kb video clip. (2nd pic) When the cutting process ends, the file size triples, 1.9. mb. I hope I have made myself clear.

Thank you for the screenshots.

Yes, the file size has increased from 658 KB to 1.9 MB.
The file size can be increased slightly (usually less than 5 MB) when you use the 'High-speed' mode.

If you want to know the cause of the problem, you have to understand the concept of "frame" and "keyframe".

Bandicut is able to cut precisely between "any frames" that the user selects. Other video cutting programs just cut only between "keyframes". However, Bandicut allows the user to precisely select the cutting area and quickly cut the selected area by "frame".

If you use the "High-speed" mode, Bandicut re-encodes "between frame and keyframe" and doesn't re-encode "between keyframes".
The file size of your video increased when Bandicut was re-encoding "between frame and keyframe".

We hope this helps.

Thank you for the answer.

I hope in future versions, there is an improvement in this too. By the way, I know frame - key frame issues. that's why I chose to buy your product. But we use this product to cut clips not only for personal use but also for public use on the internet. When you promise 480p quality, and they get it in a 1080p quality size, your clients will feel cheated. Apart from this, a perfect product you have. Anyway, I hope there will be amendments on this.

A side note: I've uninstalled the program and installed 3.1.3.454. when I chose the video to cut, I didn't see the orange line this time, which was good news for me. As it turned out, this time the outcome file was OK, say the change was about 300kbs for a 600kbs file.
